Raeann Brown, Inuit Artisan & Art Shop Owner from Wabush (Canada)

Raeann Brown is an Inuit Artisan. She was born in Montreal Quebec in 1986 and lived in Kuujjuaq Nunavik for part of her early years, then was raised in her hometown of Postville, Nunasiavut.

Raeann is a mother of four and she now lives with her family in Wabush, Newfoundland and Labrador (NL), where she owns her own business, Inuky Glass Art.

Art has always been an extensive part of her life, her mediums include paper, canvas, paint, written word and primarily glass etching - the art of compromising the surface of glass with an abrasive acid. She is a self taught artist and draws inspiration from her Inuit culture, depicting scenes of Inuit people and activities she recalls from her childhood. 

Inspired by her culture from an early age, Brown has been creating art for as long as she can remember, originally starting with poetry and beginning to learn the art of glass etching in 2012.

Today, Raeann etches and paints a wide range of products, such as wine glasses, mirrors, ornaments and more. She also offers classes in her community and surrounding communities teaching the basics of etching to private groups and other organizations. 

Raeann's work has been featured in exhibitions such as 2015 Nunatsiavut Community Exhibition and the 2019 Labrador Winter Games. FedEx Canada named her one of the top 75 small business' in Canada in 2019.

In 2018, she was asked to create commemorative gifts for residential school survivors in the community of North West River for a national event.

Currently, Raeann sells her work from her Facebook page and website and ships throughout Canada and beyond, her work is also sold at boutiques and stores throughout Newfoundland and Labrador and she is a frequent vendor at fine arts and crafts fairs near her community.

In April 2020, she published her first book "The Colours of our Culture", which is a colouring book for adults that tells Inuit stories.

"Do You Wanna Build An Igloo?" is a child's coloring book, poised to launch in May 2020.

Raeann was recently featured in a local media "Inuit artists help others deal with isolation".
